Occurrence of Drunk Driving
Drunk driving is when someone who has more taken alcohol than is specified drives while drunk. In most cases, it is a criminal offense for it is against the law. Most of the drunk driving cases happen during the night, weekends and over the holidays. These times are when most people are free from their daily activities and they choose to have a good time by taking alcohol. Since these are the peak times of drunk driving, as a result, these are the times most accidents occur. Some of the accidents may be fatal or could maim the victims and even the drivers.
Drunk driving accidents occur so easily. Irresponsible behavior comes as a result of someone losing sound judgment when they take alcohol. Over speeding, ignoring of road signs that indicate things such as bumps are the traffic offenses caused by drunk driving.
There is so much publicity that has been done to reduce cases of drunk driving. There are taxi companies who base their marketing strategies on safe road usage but drunk driving still goes on. The cases are at times brought down when taxi drivers strategically place themselves outside drinking joints to ferry the alcohol drinkers to their destinations instead of driving when drunk. It is important to put taxi drivers out of drinking joints But sometimes drivers go with their cars initially so they may find it inconvenient to leave their cars behind and they then opt to drunk driving. Or maybe the driver spends all the money on the alcohol, and they end up with no cab money left. It is always a trend to people who own cars to drive after drinking
Another effort that could avoid these incidences is by ensuring traffic police are most keen during the peak times. As it is an offense against a country’s law, this way works because of the penalties imposed on the crime. If it results in fatalities or property destruction, then a jail term and huge fines may be demanded by the state. The offensive driver has the possibility of losing their driving license.
Drunk driving has a lot of negative outcomes for all the parties involved in it. Because human beings can never cease taking alcohol; it is a terrible phenomenon that will always exist. The best alternative would be to stiffen the penalties for drunk driving. It is upon people to learn the many moral lessons that have been as a result of drunk driving and maybe bring generational change. Children should be taught from their young age the repercussions of drunk driving and that they may grow up having that knowledge. In this way, changes to the next generation is achieved then drunk driving can be a thing of the past
